Festool KAPEX KS 120R Sliding Compound Mitre Saw: Precise, Repeatable Cuts for Fine Finish Work and Big Timber Alike
Finish carpentry leaves little room for error. A mitre that's half a degree out shows up as a gap in your skirting, and a saw with flex in its slide can drift on wide boards and spoil an expensive piece of timber. Many sliding saws also need a lot of space behind them, which is hard to find in a small workshop or a tight room on site. The Festool KAPEX KS 120R is built to solve these problems. Its rigid twin-column guide, dual-line laser and fine angle adjustment give you clean, accurate cuts every time, and its compact slide fits where other saws won't.
Add the KAPEX KS 120R to your workshop and make every mitre, bevel and crosscut with confidence.
Key Features
- Powerful 1,600W motor with variable speed (1,400–3,400 rpm): Plenty of power for thick hardwoods and wide boards. You can lower the speed for plastics, cable ducts and aluminium profiles, so you get a cleaner cut with less melting or burring.
- 260mm saw blade with 305 x 88mm capacity at 90°: Cut wide panels, shelving and thick framing timber in a single pass. Fewer flips and second cuts mean better accuracy and less wasted material.
- Twin-column guide with dual ball bearings: The blade travels on two rigid columns running in ball bearings, so the slide stays smooth and steady with no wobble. Your cuts stay square and true across the full width of the board.
- Dual-line laser: Two laser lines mark both edges of the blade's cut, called the kerf. You can line up your mark from the left or right side and know exactly where the blade will land before you cut.
- Mitre angles up to 50° left and 60° right: A wide mitre range handles everything from simple picture frames to steep angles on stairs, trim and custom joinery.
- Bevel angles up to 47° on both sides: Tilt the head either way for compound mitres. You can make matching cuts without flipping your workpiece end for end.
- Fine adjustment at the front: Make small, precise changes to the blade angle from the front of the machine. Dial in the exact setting you need without reaching around the saw.
- Smart Bevel for transferring angles: Measure real interior and exterior corners on site, then transfer the angle straight to the saw. Walls are rarely perfectly square, so this helps your trim fit tightly the first time.
- Skirting boards up to 120mm high: A special cutting position lets you cut skirting standing upright at its finished angle. You get cleaner, more accurate joints in corners.
- Crown mouldings up to 168mm: Cut cornices and crown mouldings in the same position they'll sit on the wall. This removes much of the tricky angle maths and reduces mistakes on costly moulding.
- MMC electronics: Smooth start-up stops the saw jerking when you switch on. Overload protection and temperature monitoring help protect the motor, and constant speed control keeps the blade cutting evenly under load.
- Quick-acting brake: The blade stops quickly after each cut. You can move on to the next cut sooner, and you work with greater safety.
- FastFix blade change: Swap blades quickly and easily when you move between timber, sheet materials and non-ferrous metals.
- Compact sliding mechanism: The slide needs no extra clearance behind the saw. You can push it close to a wall, which makes it ideal for small workshops and tight rooms on site.
- Die-cast magnesium construction: Magnesium is strong and rigid but lighter than many other metals used in saw bodies. You get a stable, accurate machine without unnecessary weight.
- Expandable side fences: The fences extend to support long and wide workpieces. Better support means steadier, more accurate cuts.
- Integrated dust extraction: Connect a 27mm or 36mm hose directly. With Festool CLEANTEC adapters, you can also use compatible 50mm hose systems. A cleaner workspace gives you a clearer view of your line and less cleanup.
- Easy to transport: Ergonomic carrying handles, a cord holder and a transport lock make it simple to move the 23.1kg saw between jobs.
- 3-year Festool warranty: Festool's comprehensive warranty gives you peace of mind that your investment is protected.

A quick tip: always clamp your workpiece firmly against the fence with the workpiece clamp, especially on short offcuts and mouldings. Let the blade reach full speed before you lower it into the timber. For wide boards, pull the head towards you, lower it, then push it back through the cut in one smooth motion. Use the dual-line laser to line up your mark on the correct side of the kerf so your piece ends up the right length. On site, measure each corner with the Smart Bevel rather than assuming 90°. Make a test cut on scrap first, then fine-tune the angle from the front of the saw. When you cut plastics or aluminium, drop the speed and fit a suitable blade for a cleaner finish. Keep an extractor connected and wait for the brake to stop the blade before you lift the head.
